Commit to your craft, and spend this fall working (and playing) on your theatrical improv skills. These classes focus on what it takes to make great improvised theater. We are not doing traditional comedic improv games, but exploring improv as a means to create theater. Find individual workshop descriptions on the classes page. Each class is half exercises, half scene work with coaching/ notes. We'll spend lots of time on our feet playing, exploring, and trying things out.

Part One: Character

Creating characters with a clear points of view will give you everything you need in improvisation! Character is the foundation to any and every interesting performance. From using voice, body, and tactics, learn the techniques that create characters quickly and effectively, ones that connect easily to your scene partner, and ones audiences can relate to. Discover your character's point of view and create a clear path forward for your scenes.

Each class is half exercises, half scene work with coaching/ notes. We'll spend lots of time on our feet playing, exploring, and trying things out.

Part Two: Story

Creating a collaborative improvised story is easy, if you have the tools you need! In this class, we will go over simple story structures, how to recognize beats and edits, and ways to create scenes that work for us rather than bog us down. Incorporating classical dramatic structure and long form improv formats, we will explore different structures and ways to craft a story inside-out.

Each class is half exercises, half scene work with coaching/ notes. We'll spend lots of time on our feet playing, exploring, and trying things out.

Part Three: Stage

December 14, 21, 28

Staging if often an after thought on a traditional improv stage- let's change that! In this class, we will focus on physical attributes of performance by working with a staging grid, levels, and tempo in relation to the space and to each other. Discover how staging can give you gifts in every improv scene. There is so much richness here that is often overlooked. Learn how to play with space and elevate your performances!
